Hei !
Today, another post about Russia, because, beause I've had such a good time there that I feel I must write a bit more. The main highlight from that trip to the imperial capital of St Petersburg has been the visit to the Hermitage, the national Arts museum. It is one of the largest museums in the world, comprising 5 main buildings including the imperial palace, and has around 3 000 000 (!) pieces of art inside, most of which are unfortunately not on display.
The guide told us it would take three weeks for one to have a look at everything for 1 min .... and we stayed there for only 3 hours, so you can imagine. But we managed to see a bit of everything ! The guided tour took us to the first two floors of each building, and we could appreciate the variety of the items displayed: Greek antics, Egyptian antics, medieval, Renaissance and modern paintings, sculptures. And the palace itself, which is the masterpiece.
I was amazed by so many beautiful (and not so beautiful) things at the same place ! I saw many paintings I knew but wasn't aware that they were there ! And the palace itself is the most amazing thing: it has it all: high ceilings, gold evrywhere, thrones, and even the smallest parts on the edges of the doors are decorated. Overall, I highly recommend to spend some time there, it is really worth it, and I think everyone will find something that will move him or her.
Don't hesitate, St Petesrburg is waiting for you !
